Problem

The organization has created a website with a search engine which allows patrons to search for books, periodicals, movies, and more from library organizations worldwide. They needed a lightweight, easy, and quick search application.

Before

Solution

We conducted dozens of end user interviews followed by Figma prototype testing to iteratively refine the design. Throughout the process, we ensured that the search functionality aligned with that of the parent website, maintaining consistency and familiarity for users. The result was an intuitive, lightweight mobile application that successfully achieved WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.

After

solution

Streamlined search experience

We launched the application with a streamlined approach. Taking the essential function of search and making it the primary function of the app.

The goal was to allow the patron to quickly search an item by name or author, identify the desired format (book, eBook, DVD, music, etc.), and view options to access.

  1. Input a search term
  2. Identify the desired format
  3. Discover nearby holding libraries

solution

ChatGPT Integration

To continue to be a leader in the industry, the team decided to integrate ChatGPT as a recommendation engine. This allows patrons to find books related to their interests that would not normally be discovered during traditional searches.

  1. Input search term
  2. Identify the desired format
  3. Discover nearby holding libraries

The Outcome

The companion mobile application is a user-focused tool that offers powerful search capabilities for books, videos, articles, and games directly from your phone or mobile device. Leveraging location services, the app identifies nearby libraries that have the desired items, providing a seamless and convenient resource discovery experience.
